School-based COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics

Image of cartoon people getting their vaccines.Public health authorities indicate getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is the most effective tool to protect ourselves, friends, and family from the virus. Vaccines protect us by helping our body build immunity and decreasing our chance of spreading COVID-19 to others.

Getting vaccinated is also important for eligible youth born in 2009 or earlier. Although youth are less likely to experience serious illness from COVID-19, some young people do get sick and require hospitalization. In addition, youth who are fully vaccinated will not be required to isolate if they are exposed to a positive case of COVID-19, unless they develop symptoms.

KFL&A Public Health has organized several school-based vaccination clinics to make it easy for students, families and staff to get their first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. No appointments are necessary.

Clinics will be held at Limestone secondary schools and students attending these schools will be able to receive their vaccine during the school day. Students and families associated with that family of schools can attend the after-school hours clinics. A list of clinic dates and locations is provided below. More locations and times may be added.

Please note these clinics are provided by KFL&A Public Health, not the school board. COVID-19 vaccines are only provided if informed consent is received from the person, as long as the youth has the capability to make this decision. This means the young person understands the treatment, why it is being recommended, and the risks and benefits if they accept or refuse to be vaccinated. If the individual is incapable of consenting to receiving the vaccine, they would need consent from their substitute decision-maker, such as their parent or legal guardian. The health-care provider and family must respect a young person’s decision to be vaccinated. Ideally, this decision should be discussed in advance with a trusted adult or guardian to ensure that they understand what they are consenting to. When a young person receives their vaccine, the person giving them their shot will check that they understand the nature of the treatment and its risks and benefits.

Please note clinic attendees must pre-screen for symptoms of COVID-19 before attending and follow all on-site COVID-19 protocols including wearing a mask. Please follow all posted directional signage.
