Lake Effect Robotics team are world champions

Limestone Learning Foundation
The Limestone District School Board robotics team, Lake Effect Robotics,  were crowned world champions at the FIRST Robotics World Championships in Detroit in April.

After completing 10 qualification matches in the "Daly" division, Team #2708 was selected for the playoffs by the #2 alliance. They had some great competitions and ended up winning the division. Next, the team competed in the inter-division round-robin matches (Einstein semifinals). Team #2708 ended up with the best record there and advanced to the Einstein finals.

The team of 30 students faced tough competition in the final matches that took place in front of a crowd of 40,000. Their alliance won in two straight matches. More than 3,600 teams from 27 countries competed at this year's FIRST Robotics World Championships.

The Lake Effects team has 54 student members, representing six schools, and four teachers from different schools (Kevin Wood from Kingston Collegiate & Vocational Institute, Kevin Firth from Bayridge Secondary School, Jennifer McCann from La Salle Secondary School, and Don Wartman from Calvin Park Public School) and eight dedicated industry and community mentors.

Lake Effect Robotics extends its heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers for the thousands of hours of support to the team.
