Mental Health and Wellness Programs & Services

Limestone Learning Foundation

LINKS

LINKS is a Secondary District Learning Centre for students with a history of significant non-attendance related to mental health concerns. The classroom aims to promote re-engagement in academics and teach coping skills. The program is a half-time program and incorporates multi-disciplinary supports through both Educational Services and Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Hotel Dieu Hospital site. Students must be referred to this program by their school administrator.

Nexus

The Nexus Program, offered in partnership with Maltby Centre, provides classroom-based structured learning environments that combine mental health intervention with individualized education. This program is for students (Grade 1-12) whose social, emotional and behavioural needs require more support than the regular classroom setting can provide. Nexus works in collaboration with caregivers to develop the skills of children and youth to manage their mental health challenges.  Families of students referred to Nexus need to be actively involved with Maltby Centre in addressing these needs. Referrals to the program are made jointly by the in-school team and the Maltby Centre therapist.

SOAR 23

The SOAR 23 Program, offered in partnership with Hotel Dieu Hospital, provides a classroom-based structured learning environment that combines mental health intervention with individualized education. This program is for students in grades 5-8 who struggle with mood and anxiety, which require more support than the regular classroom setting can provide. These mental health challenges often significantly interfere with academic achievement, often due to frequent absences and disengagement from school. Each student will work within an individualized education program (IEP), tailored to their strengths and needs in each area. In addition to curriculum, the program focuses on a social/emotional and life skills based alternative component. Families of students referred to SOAR 23 are encouraged to actively participate in monthly multi-family group therapy sessions.  Referrals to the program are made by the in-school team or Hotel Dieu Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry staff.

The Limestone District School Board is situated on traditional territories of the Anishinaabe & Haudenosaunee.
