Update March 14, 2021: KFL&A Public Health has cleared another class cohort at Sir John A. Macdonald Public School to return to school next week as there is no risk to students following further investigation.

This is the final cohort to be cleared at Sir John A. Macdonald PS.

Eight class cohorts were originally dismissed by Public Health on March 11, 2021 as a precaution following the identification of contacts of a positive COVID-19 case that is known to have a Variant of Concern, or VOC.

Public Health previously cleared three class cohorts from Marysville Public School, Module Vanier and Polson Park Public School on March 12, 2021. Three more class cohorts, two from Sir John A. Macdonald PS, and one from Winston Churchill Public School, were cleared on March 13, 2021.

The seven class cohorts are permitted to return to school on Monday, March 15, 2021 provided they pass daily COVID-19 screening.

One class cohort at Winston Churchill Public School will continue to isolate following the identification of a positive case of COVID-19 that is being investigated as a VOC. An additional bus cohort related to Winston Churchill PS was directed to self-isolate March 13, 2021 pending further investigation.

All schools remain open.

Original Post from March 11, 2021

Eight classes at five schools in the Limestone District School Board have been dismissed as a precaution following the identification of a contact of a positive COVID-19 case that is known to have a Variant of Concern, or VOC. *This post has been corrected: original post said seven classes instead of eight

KFL&A Public Health ordered the dismissal of some classes at Marysville Public School, Module Vanier, Polson Park Public School, Sir John A. Macdonald Public School and Winston Churchill Public School on March 11, 2021. Affected cohorts will remain at home in isolation until further investigation is completed by public health.

There are currently no positive cases in LDSB related to this VOC.

Because VOCs could spread more easily than typical COVID-19 cases, more proactive isolation and contact tracing measures are being taken if a VOC is suspected in a school environment.

KFL&A Public Health and the school board are taking all necessary steps to prevent further spread of the virus both in schools and the community.

Affected cohorts and the larger school communities were notified of the situation earlier this evening. Students not identified as an affected cohort may continue going to school if they pass the daily COVID-19 screening.

Everyone is reminded to continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and screen your student daily as most cases of COVID-19 are acquired in the home setting.
