Update March 17, 2021: After further testing, KFL&A Public Health has determined the strain of COVID-19 associated with Land O'Lakes Public School is NOT a Variant of Concern (VOC).

Update March 16, 2021:
KFL&A Public Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at Land O’Lakes Public School following the identification of a second positive case. The second case was identified in a student on March 16, 2021. The first case was identified in a staff member on March 15, 2021.

As per provincial Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education guidance, an outbreak is declared in a school once it has been determined that two individuals have tested positive with an epidemiological link (e.g., these students/staff could have become infected with COVID-19 at school, either from each other or a common source).

Both positive cases are isolating and following directives from KFL&A Public Health. In the interests of maintaining privacy, the board will not identify individuals that have tested positive for COVID-19.

Affected members of the school community have been notified. At this time, the school remains open.

------

KFL&A Public Health has identified a staff member at Land O'Lakes Public School tested positive for COVID-19 on March 15, 2021. The staff member is isolating at home, and they are following directives from KFL&A Public Health. In the interests of maintaining privacy, the board will not identify the person that has received a positive COVID-19 test.

Affected members of the school community have been notified. At this time, the school remains open.

The school and board are working with KFL&A Public Health to identify cohorts of students, staff and others who may have been in close contact with the COVID-19 positive person at school. Not all students or staff will be affected by a positive case. A positive case at a school does not mean the individual was exposed to COVID-19 at the school. They may have been exposed somewhere else in the community or outside of the KFL&A region.

The school will clean and disinfect all areas where the individual may have been, and will work with KFL&A Public Health to develop a plan to protect all members of the school community to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In accordance with Ministry of Education guidelines, the board has posted the date, school/site location, and number of positive confirmed cases on its website. The board will continue to follow the directions of KFL&A Public Health who has the responsibility to manage confirmed cases of COVID-19, including what happens if an outbreak is declared.

KFL&A Public Health, the school and board are taking all necessary steps to prevent further spread of the virus both in the schools and the community. As always, the health and safety of students, staff and the school community remain our priority.

Please visit the COVID-19 Confirmed Cases webpage for a list of current cases.
