The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) of Trustees approved a balanced budget for the 2024-2025 school year totaling $322.8 million at its regular meeting on June 19, 2024.
The 2024-2025 budget is compliant with the Ministry of Education requirements, with total operating expenditures of $298 million and capital expenditures of $24.5 million. The vast majority of the operating budget is directed to student instruction and relates directly to classroom supports. Capital expenditures are used to fund school condition improvements and school renewal projects.
The LDSB continues to experience budgetary pressures in the following areas:
-
- Transportation expenditures continue to exceed transportation funding provided by the province through the new funding formula
-
- Special education expenses exceed special education funding
-
- Underfunded collective agreements that do not account for statutory benefit increases
-
- Equity and inclusion positions (the Ministry of Education funds these position in some boards but not LDSB)
