The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Indigenous Education Committee (IEC), as of May, 2023, is recognized as a standing committee of the board. Included in Board Policy 11 – Board Committees, is also a statement that identifies the autonomous nature of the LDSB IEC.

The IEC is made up of Indigenous community members, organizations that serve Indigenous students/families, and Indigenous parents/caregivers. Members of the IEC are selected by submitting expressions of interest as defined by the Terms of Reference. The LDSB Indigenous Trustee and one other Trustee also sit on the IEC. 

The IEC is governed by Terms of Reference that are reviewed annually. The Terms of Reference was written by the IEC and is upheld by the IEC. The LDSB Indigenous team works collaboratively with the IEC on supporting Indigenous Education in LDSB. 
The IEC also has a specific mandate to provide input into the Ministry Board Action Plan for Indigenous Education.

The Limestone District School Board is situated on traditional territories of the Anishinaabe & Haudenosaunee.
