Core French

Limestone Learning Foundation

All elementary and secondary schools in the LDSB offer Core French programming. The Limestone Core French program begins in Grade 1 and continues through Grade 12. In our elementary schools all students receive 200 minutes of French instruction weekly based on Ontario Curriculum 2013 French as a Second Language  document.

The Core French Program involves students in language learning through rich, action oriented tasks. In Ontario, all Grade 9 students are required to take one French course and may choose to continue their second language learning  to Grade 12. Upon completion of four Core French credits at the secondary level, students are eligible to receive a Limestone District Certificate of French Study (Core).

Parental/guardian knowledge of French is not an expectation or requirement. Communication between the school and home is in English. Schools and parents/guardians work together to support students.

The Limestone District School Board is situated on traditional territories of the Anishinaabe & Haudenosaunee.
